Planning lighting and colour

Lighting 

It is very important to plan lighting in advance as it is a extremely important feature in a music video. The lighting can define the mood of a scene as it helps the audience to relate better to the artists. Different styles of lighting can give out different effects, so for example low key lighting may show mystery and danger, whilst high key lighting portrays clearness and brightness.  

Natural lighting is the main source of lighting that my group and I decided to use in our music video. This is less conventional to our dance-pop genre characteristics than low and high key lighting, which we also used. 
Natural lighting was chosen by us as we thought might have been the best suited to help portray the nature of humans and how men and women are meant to be together. The natural lighting is also a connotation of life and purity and how it passes by quickly but it can not be stopped as it is a natural process. By not using artificial light will help to support our concept of life and love as natural lighting such as a sunset may be seen as very romantic.

Whilst low key lighting, as it related well to our genre conventions was chosen due to the fact that is associated well with danger and also generates a mysterious, dangerous as well as scary ambience. This style of lighting we thought might have been more appropriate especially as we have to take into consideration our dance/pop genre conventions. The darkness in a shot my represent party-life as well as sadness as we are looking for this man day and night. 

Colour

The use of colours may be very important in any production as colours tend to have different connotations, which are used to warm the audience to what may happen next. They also help to set the mood so for example if purple was shown, it could associate to royalty and elegance.
  

In our music video, the use of colours is very significant, as it helps to portray the artist’s emotions thought out. Black depicts the artist’s soulless  as they encounter difficulty in finding the person that they are in love with. This colour also connotes sadness and danger, as the love that they have for this person becomes stronger day by day; whilst at the same time they are becoming more impatient and more willing to lose themselves to him. Black as it usually associated with funerals as well as danger, in this video it connotes both. The funeral is associated with their souls dying in the absence of this man, as they are drawing in their sorrow and sadness of life which is dying. Whilst the danger is related to the love  that is so strong, that has now become desperate and dangerous as they are willing to lose their purity for him.

Red is the connotation of love, as well as depicting danger; as the love that she has for this mysterious man becomes more dangerous as her frustrations grow due to his absence. Red is also used to connote our sexuality and femininity. This colour will be the representation of love and life and it shows our determination to find love in a life that flies by. 
Red was used in both our photo-shot as we warm red lipstick and red nail vanish and in our music video we included a red candle as it helped to set that romantic and erotic mood.
