Second Digipak Reflection

Second Digipak

This digipak relates well to the pop-dance genre convention; the bright colours relate to pop whilst the darkness to dance. In this digipak the colours such as red, as in the previous digipak connote danger and love, whilst other colours like blue relates to our youth and diversion.
The layout is very similar with my previous one as I liked the idea of having single and group shows, and finding ways to link them together. Although what I have changed are some fonts in order to make certain words to stand out more.
As the backgrounds are very simple, I wanted the artists to be the main focus rather than the art work, appealing to our audience. And for this reason that their simplicity mixed with their strong personalities shining through the images, will appeal to our target market as it is classy and fresh.

WHAT CHOICES AND DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE AND WHY?
In my second draft for my album cover, I decided to use different photos from my first draft, as these show more fun and craziness than the previous ones.
Although I decided to use a plain background, by using the outer-glow it helped the images to stand out further, making us look almost angelic meanwhile comic.
Also for CLOSURE I also used an outer-glow as it is in black it helps it to stand out from the same colour background. The font I used for CLOSURE is very simple (capitals) as is it effective and clear to read.
Instead for CHIC I used a more femine font, with hearts to represent our soft side and the colour red it depicts danger and love; being the main themes throughout the songs in our track-list.

ARE YOUR CHOICES AND DECISIONS CONVENTIONAL TO YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND WHY?
The colours I have used, relate well to dance genre conventions as they connote night, clubs, fun and youth; whilst the font for CHIC as well as the colour relate well to pop as it is bright and vibrant. Also the images that I have used are very fun and different; there comic expressions relate well to pop as nowadays is very cartoon like, as it uses lots of animation.

WHAT COULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
The only thing I would change in this album cover, are the images as they are not in scale, although I do really like the picture on the bottom right as well as the one above as they really relate well to who we want to be portrayed as, as well as associating well with the genre conventions of pop and dance.

WHAT CHOICES AND DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE AND WHY?
In this CD I decided to keep the plain background as in the previous one as well as the font, but I did change the order and layout of the letters. As I wanted the hole in the middle to be the O, I increased the size of the C and slowly decreased it until the E. I like this layout as it is eye-catching and different.
The colours, relate well to the genre convention of dance and pop as they represent a night out and partying.

ARE YOUR CHOICES AND DECISIONS CONVENTIONAL TO YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND WHY?
The font is femine and sophisticated as it can relate to pop whilst the colours as I mentioned above associate really well with dance characteristics.
The simplicity of this CD really relates well to who we are as a band; four simple girls pursuing their dream.

WHAT COULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
Although I wanted it to be simple, I think as in the previous CD the background is too empty and boring and maybe some kind of design would have improved the appearance of this disc.

WHAT CHOICES AND DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE AND WHY?
What I did change from my first draft was adding an outer-glow, which seems to be running through all the slides at the moment. This effect helped to brighten up the slide and the images, making us look almost angelic. By increasing the size of the glow, helped to cover most of the background helping to give life and fun to the slide and the images.
This would appeal to our target audience as it is all about the group so that the demographic can relate to them and their friendships.

ARE YOUR CHOICES AND DECISIONS CONVENTIONAL TO YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND WHY?
The colours, which are in all slides, are conventional to dance music as they represent nights out and fun. Although as we are not wearing much jewellery and our fun sides comes through our images this are conventional to pop, as we are shown as more natural and untamed.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
I would like to change the images as some do not look as good as I would have referred. Some of the photo-shopping was not done as accurately as it should, which makes the slide look less attractive.
Maybe by adding some animation to the slide would have helped to brighten it up furthermore and making it  more appealing to our target audience.

WHAT CHOICES AND DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE AND WHY?
As from the slide above I have only added an outer-glow to the image to ensure that the photo would stand out further from the background and also making us look like we were almost coming out of the slide.
This I had done as, also being an effect that I have previously used in all my slides but also as it helped to appeal to our audience as it makes the artists look more glamorous, whilst as the same time simple as for the image I had chosen.

ARE YOUR CHOICES AND DECISIONS CONVENTIONAL TO YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND WHY?
As in this slide I decided to use text on the background, it does convey to pop as animation as well as text has become very popular in this genre nowadays. The font I have chosen, which is the same as the CD one, appeals to my audience as well as portraying the artists as delicate and worldly.
The colours as in all the slides convey to my music genres, as well as the words LOVE ME ALL NIGHT, emphasise on the dance genre as its usual conventions are parties and night settings.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
Firstly I would move the image further down, so that the end of the image is not on show. I would also maybe change the image to something more fun although I would still keep a single shot of the artists together and the background as I find it conveys perfectly with our genre conventions.

WHAT CHOICES AND DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE AND WHY?
For my thank you page, I decided to make it very simple with each artist in a corner and what they individually wrote in different fonts. I decided this, firstly in order to distinguish which note belonged to whom but also I tried to find a font which matched our hand writing; as everything is done digitally at the moment and adding each ones hand writing would have been too complicated. This would have helped the audience to connect better to the artists as they could feel as they know the singers better.
Also as I did for the colours of each name, as the colour represent who we are portraying to be: Jenna-red, as she is portrayed to be seductive and interested in love; Ellie-blue as she is the tomboy of the group; Jessie-pink as she is the femine and innocent one and Selina-purple as she is the uplifting spirit in the group.

ARE  YOUR CHOICES AND DECISIONS CONVENTIONAL TO YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND WHY?
The bright colours that I have decided to use in this slide convey really well to pop as they are vibrant and eye-catching, and also the different fonts as in pop generally, the more is going on in the picture the better it is. Maybe in this thank you notes the genre conventions for dance are less evident as I decided to go for a plain background rather than black.

WHAT COULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
To start with I would change the images on the top right and bottom left as the arms were not in the frame of the photograph. An other thing that I would like to change is maybe adding more genre characteristics of dance as they are missing in this slide.
WHAT CHOICES AND  DECISIONS DID YOU MAKE AND WHY?
For my final slide, I have decided to change totally from my first draft and add some objects that our audience would recognised from the music video, decided so to use the mascherade mask.
I also rearranged the titles of the songs in a new and original manner; also by giving each title a different colour has helped differentiate them better.
For the title TRACK LIST I gave an outer-glow in order to make it stand out from the background and to make it more evident to the eye. I tried doing the same for all the song title but the slide looked too cluttered.

ARE YOUR CHOICES AND DECISIONS CONVENTIONAL TO YOUR MUSIC GENRE AND WHY?
All the colours that I have used relate well to my genre traditions, as an atmosphere of party and night has been conveyed through the mask and the dark background and the different colours of the font represent the different colours of lights that associated with nightclubs.
The pop is associated through the bright colours and the funky and young font.

WHAT COULD YOU CHANGE AND WHY?
What I would like to change would be the DEF JAM logo as I would like to tie it in with the rest of the slide better, by maybe changing the colours of it.
Also the mask, as I do think is a good idea, but maybe should be been inserted or photo-shopped in a different way to make it look a bit more appealing.

I decided that my second draft will be the one that I will be submitting to my group as it promotes the artists in a better image which will most likely appeal to a young adults demographic. This is due to the colours that I have chosen which also relate well to the genre characteristics of our chosen song. I didn't submit my first draft as the bright colours may have not appealed as much to my audience but most likely to young teenagers.

  1. This post continues from your first draft and you have continued to explain your choices and decisions well.

Not sure if the colour scheme is appropriate for a teenage audience though?

Which digipak will you submit to your group and why?
