Planning Location

Locations

Locations are very important in the planning of music videos, as they help to ensure that the right representation is portrayed as well as it helps to set the correct atmosphere. Locations need to be chosen carefully especially when targeting a specific demographic as different audiences will have different interests in different places.

The forest/field is a picked location for our music video, as we felt that the artists had to prove their love for this man, and that they will have to search for him everywhere even in the deepest and darkest ends, as his love doesn't come easily. This illustrates them as having a determined personality as they do not want to fail; which relates to their ambition to succeed in their careers and not only in love.
An other theme that we are trying to portray is life and by using a forest, it represents nature as a different form of existence.
The forest creates a dark and mysterious atmosphere in addition to connoting sadness and danger; helping to depict that their love for this man could turn into something dangerous and uncontrollable.
The field symbolises open spaces as it emphasises on the size of the world and the hardness and length it might take them to find that someone whom will make them happy. It also depicts that there are many different variety and kind of men they could pick form, but we want to stress on the concept that there is only one guy in particular of which they are looking for.
A limitation of filming in this location will be that due to the wet weather conditions the field may become muddy and as a consequence slippery and dangerous for both us and for the equipment. To avoid this problem we will try to schedule filming in this location in better weather conditions but if not possible we will simply wear shoes with a better grip, in order to prevent anyone for hurting itself. And for the equipment as long as we handle it with more care it might be a way to prevent it from being destroyed.

Oxford street is a busy locations that we thought might have been adequate for our music video, as there busyness and the bright lights relates well to our genre convention of dance-pop. The crowd of people  is associated with the confusion going through the artists minds as well as relating to the difficulty in finding this mysterious man, as he could be anywhere in a place surrounded by so many people. The confusion also is associated with  life and how it quick it is as a process. As we intend to speed up this shot, it will help to show life passing by quickly and how hard it may be to find love in all the confusion that surrounds us in daily life.
A limitation of filming in Oxford Street is that it might be harder to control where people will be walking and as a consequence harder to get a clearer shot or for example a bus without people passing in front f the camera. An other limitation is that if it becomes too crowded people pushing the equipment and there might be a risk of it being destroyed or even stolen. So for this reason we will have to pay further attention to it.

Westminster is an other location which we picked for our music video. I thought that this location, due to the flashing lights at night of the London Eye and all the cars driving past might have been a great way to represent the night and how we are searching for this man even in the night, as we have no peace without him, and for this reason I chose to show traffic. How boats and cars pass by is also a representation of how life/time passes by so quickly and that it is impossible for us to stop it.
In this location the beautiful landmarks such as the House of Parliament, the Big Ben and the London Eye will be shown, which will represent the beauty of life itself and the wonders that we see everyday.
A limitation of filming in this area, would be the distance form our homes as we want to film in the dark, we might put ourselves as well as the equipment into danger. Although a limitation which we won't be able to control will be the weather conditions as by being surrounded by a river the temperature may be colder especially considering that we will be filming in winter.

Backstage in the school hall was a key location for filming our music video, as it gave us the possibility to create a club scene, as not all of us are over 18 years old. Therefore would not be allowed to enter a club. There could also be the possibility of difficulties when filming, due to the danger of the equipment breaking or being stolen. The inclusion of flashing lights in the club scene, allowing as high in verisimilitude as possible, hopefully will help to convey who we are to the dance genre conventions. The location selected, we thought would be a perfect way to show ‘the artists’ together as a band, but at the same time we hoped it would help to depict further, our youth; by the screening of us dancing and having fun with our friends.
The limitations of this shot wherein, there are not as many people as would have been in an actual club, the scene may not look as realistic as we would have intended. Although we tried to avoid this, by asking as many of our friends as possible to show up in order to make this shot as successful as possible.

  1. You have made a start in explaining the locations that wish to include within your chosen music video. But to show further understanding of planning you need to explain how the locations follow your narrative/concept in further detail.

You also need to consider the limitations of each location too
