Group Magazine
Analysis of Magazine Adverts
As a group we sat down and decided that for our advert we wanted to use a picture that will portray us a fun and sassy group. We didn't really discuss on the layout and design of the advert as we all made our own versions and at the end decided which one portrayed us better as well as having a better appearance.
We all tried to relate our advert to our album cover and digi-pak as we thought might have been more appropriate as being as not being an established group we wanted to make sure similar fonts and colours were used in both projects.

This advert, created by Selina, uses bright colours which relate well to our pop-dance genre convention., although as it is too colourful it makes the advert look less realistic. The typography is very clear and simple to understand which relates very well to our target audience as they are young teenagers. Although the use of font doesn't make the words such as "Where Have You Been"stand out enough, and the writing "Closure" is not clear that it is the album name rather than the groups, notwithstanding that it is layout is very eye-catching manner.
This advert could be improved by assuring that all the editing is done correctly so making sure that all the green was patiently removed without affecting or ruining the image itself. As it can be clearly seen that on the edges of Ellie's hair the background was not edited well enough and my wrist and ear were cut off, making it look like my hand is floating. As the editing skills weren't extremely accurate, making it so look less professional and for this reason I do not believe it should be used as our final advert. Also the image used doesn't portray us as a fun and lively girl-band.
As she used journalists opinions in the advert I believed was a really good way to promote our artists, as it something that is seen in most professional adverts. Also the blurry effect at the bottom I believe was good as it blended in well with the background colours (orange-green-red&blue) as it also creates a mysterious and smoky effect.

This advert created by Ellie Hudson, also uses bright colours, but as they are more settled gives the poster a more sophisticated appearance.
The positioning of the image can be clearly state where it ends, so in my opinion it should have been brought down until the end of the framing, making it look more professional. An other criticism would be that the advert doesn't include much information as it only presents the name of the band as well as the albums and their début song. In this advert, as there isn't much variety of fonts, the words all blend in together as they stand out less, so for example "Where have you been", making it so hardly noticeable.
As well as the previous one, this advert doesn't display the album cover, which it is important especially as that is the product being advertised.
This advert could be improved by assuring that the positioning of the vocabulary, helps them to stand out more as they only focus in the advert at the moment is the image.
An other thing that could improve the poster would be to show a wider variety of the size of font as the writing in white it is not eye-catching.
Although from this advert I really liked the rainbow at the back as the colour represent our youth and in the image it seems like we are pointing up to the words "Chic" and to "Closure" as well as portraying that the only way the girl-band is going is up, indirectly suggesting "success".
The glowing effect around us relates to our genre convention of pop-dance as we are glowing like "stars" in the night, which is represented by the black background. The contrast between dark and bright colours also can be associated with the genre conventions; as in pop, bright colours are mainly used and in dance darker colours; blending in both genres together.

In this advert, designed by Jenna Wilkins, only pink, gold and black colours were used. These fit in very well with our genre convention as they represent fun and youth as well as simplicity.
A criticisms is that, as the posters above, it doesn't contain an image of the album we are trying to sell; this could have helped to fill in the poster a bit more, preventing those empty spaces.
This advert could be improved by maybe adding a gold blowing effect on the photograph, so that the image could blend in better with the rest of the poster; as at the moment it doesn't have a complete finish look.
What I do like about this advert is the her choice and variety of fonts as they make the key words, such as Where Have You Been and Closure stand out more than other less important ones.
I also really like choice of font used for Chic, as it is really girls and different, relating well to the image we want to portray and also who our target audience are.
The different sizes for the words really relate well to our genre convention, but I also like them as they create diversity, giving the poster a less flat appearance.
I am also intrigued by the simplicity of the poster as it is clear and bold and gets it's point across easily "OUT NOW!". The typography is just right for the type of audience we are marketing as they are teenagers, we want the instructions to be as coherent and straightforward as possible.
This advert which was created by me, it is my second and final draft. I decided to go for a more dark advert as I thought related better to the music video we are producing. Although the colours such as white and red, brightens up the poster relating it more to who we are as artists, girly and young, as well as in contrast with the dark background it helps the typography stands out better.
A criticism for this advert would be the font for CHIC I believe doesn't fit in perfectly with the rest of the poster, although it is the same to the one on the album cover. What can be improved in this advert are the graffiti; I like the idea, but it could have been styled differently to make it more appealing.
What I do like in this advert is the font I used for CLOSURE, as it is simple, but at the same time eye-catching and it relates well to our dance genre convention with the colours black and gold.

After deliberating we came to the conclusion to submit my poster as the final one; this was as we thought looked the most realistic and it also portrayed the group the best. We also chose this poster as it used a variety of fonts and included most features we thought were necessary in a magazine advert.
This post demonstrates good group work and this is evident through the different comments that you have included above. You have also considered the strengths and weakness for each advert well, before deciding on a group advert to submit.
